Oral-B iO Serie 6 test: a simple and enduring connected toothbrush

Editor's Rating: 4 out of 5

Convenience of use

The Oral-B iO Serie 6 is an oscillating-rotating electric toothbrush. This technology means that the round-shaped brush head performs thousands of rotations per minute while pulsating to remove plaque as effectively as possible. This system is opposed to the sonic technology found mainly on BDE (electric toothbrushes) from Philips. Typically, oscillating-rotating BDEs perform up to 48,000 movements per minute, and sonic models 15,000 to 31,000.

The handle of this toothbrush is covered with a matt gray plastic that is pleasant to hold. It is at the level of this handle that we find a small screen which displays one of the five brushing modes (softness, whiteness, gum care, intense cleanliness, cleanliness) or even gives access to the various settings of the BDE . On either side of this display are two buttons. The one located on the lower part is used to scroll through the programs while the one at the top allows you to select one of these programs, but also to turn the toothbrush on and off.

When we turn on the toothbrush, it greets us with a « Hello ». A stopwatch is triggered at the start of brushing to indicate on the screen the duration of the operation. When this time is reached, a small smile appears to indicate that the brushing time has been respected. A pressure sensor alerts by means of a light signal when the brush head is pressed too much on the teeth (red if too much pressure, white if not enough pressure and green if the pressure is good).

The Oral-B iO Serie 6 benefits from connectivity via Bluetooth: after downloading the Oral-B application and following the instructions indicated on the app, all you have to do is bring your BDE close to your smartphone for pairing to take place. do.

Once the toothbrush is connected, it appears on the app. With each brushing, it indicates the areas of the jaw (by a 3D representation of the jaw on the interface) which have been cleaned and those on which it will be necessary to iron.

The application also offers an overview of the number of brushings performed, the brushing surface covered on the last use or the remaining life of the brush head.

Attention, for the brushing to be recorded, it is necessary to launch the application beforehand, the toothbrush itself does not retain the movements made. The brushing analysis is done in real time by the application.

Of course, this BDE can be used without the dedicated application, but in this case it loses a good part of its functionality.

Like all self-respecting electric toothbrushes, the iO Serie 6 offers a default timer set to 2 minutes of brushing, corresponding to the duration recommended by dentists. In addition, the handle vibrates every 30 seconds to warn the user that it is time to change brushing area.

Finally, the Oral-B iO Serie 6 comes with a travel case, a charging stand and a single brush head. We would of course have appreciated that this model comes with a second brush head, especially since the price of a brush head from the iO range is significantly higher than that of a more classic Oral-B brush head. It will indeed take 40 € to obtain the set of four iO brushes (compared to around fifteen euros for four brushes of simpler models).
