In an interview given to the JDD this Sunday, May 28, Alain Delon did not hesitate to make many revelations. And in particular one, astonishing, dealing with a photo of Romy Schneider that he always keeps with him.
« We really wanted to talk to the last sacred monster of French cinema ». It is with these words that the Journal du Dimanche (JDD) journalist began his phone call with the legend Alain Delon. Once the scene was set, the latter spoke at length, without filter, on many subjects dealing with his life. The 86-year-old actor who is a true legend gave an exceptional interview on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the death of Romy Schneider (May 29, 1982).
I have to say that the two actors formed one of the most iconic couples of an entire generation while turning in four films (Christine, The assassination of Trotsky, Full sun, The swimming pool). Weakened by a stroke since the summer of 2019, Alain Delon logically no longer turns. And is becoming increasingly rare in the media. Currently between Switzerland and Loiret, this interview is all the more delightful. Logically, it started with Romy Schneider as a subject.

« I can’t believe that was forty years ago. I think of her every day. She’s probably happier where she is now. You know, his death didn’t surprise me, I had a feeling. It’s not that Romy wanted to die, but she couldn’t go on living since her son had disappeared so tragically. From that day, I felt that she was going to leave quickly. She couldn’t stand it »began by telling the mythical actor.
Asked about the fact that he did not go to the funeral of Romy Schneider, Alain Delon delivered an anecdote … astonishing. « I didn’t want to be the target of photographers: it was voyeurism. I went to meditate at her grave a few days later to be alone with her. On the other hand, I went to watch her at her house. I wrote him a letter. I took a picture of her dead on her bed, which I keep in my wallet. Romy looks like she’s sleeping soundly, she’s gorgeous. »
