Mark Cavendish (Quick-Step) will also be making a comeback, nine years after his last participation. And Alejandro Valverde, for his part, will share the responsibilities within the Movistar team with the Colombian climber Ivan Sosa. In 2016, during his one and only appearance, he won a stage and took third place overall.

First for Martin
On the French side, Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) will discover the Giro. Ranked eighth in the Tour and ninth in the Vuelta in 2021, the Norman will chain Tour of Italy-Tour de France. « The objective will be to achieve a good or even a very good result in the general classification. I hope to do better than my best performance in a Grand Tour (8th). I have good memories in Italy for having won a stage in the Tour of Sicily and another in the Tour of Tuscany. It’s a race that suits the climbers very well and should suit me too ».
