Monaco overtakes OM thanks to Ben Yedder! - Dbrief and NOTES of the players (ASM 4-2 Brest) - Football

Monaco d

Triple for Wissam Ben Yedder!

Led 2-0 in the first half, AS Monaco overthrew Stade Brestois (4-2) thanks to a hat-trick from Ben Yedder! This success allows the Principality club to take 2nd place following the defeat of OM Rennes (2-0).

Under pressure from their competitors in the race for the podium, and with OM’s 2nd place in sight, AS Monaco had to score a ninth consecutive success against Brest.

But the evening started very badly for the Mongasques, quickly led after the goal of Duverne (0-1, 10th) on a combination from a corner!

Monaco completely misses its start

Tense, probably because of the stakes, Philippe Clement’s men had a lot of trouble putting their game on. on his line by Lasne.

It felt like a bad night for Monaco, still surprised by Belali (0-2, 24th) on a solo action! Suffice to say that 2nd place was moving away for ASM. It took a happy penalty, on a hand from Belali, to allow Ben Yedder (1-2, 44th) to revive his team in the game and in the race for the podium. We can think that the Mongasques took a look at the scores during the break, starting with that of OM who lost Rennes.

Unstoppable Ben Yedder!

A big blow was therefore within their reach provided they overthrew Brest. Mission accomplished since the locals, distraught at the return from the locker room, were quick to equalize through Ben Yedder (2-2, 51st). And it was again the ex-Toulouse who gave ASM the advantage (3-2, 55th) with a header after a cross from Tchouamni!

Brest were outclassed in this weak time and definitely cracked on Volland’s lucky goal (4-2, 70th). This is how Monaco, while OM were still losing Rennes (2-0), settled into 2nd place in Ligue 1 before the last day, simply thanks to a better goal difference! Note that the ASM will defend its position during a perilous move to Lens.

The score of the match: 7/10

Despite the technical waste at the start of the match, we ended up having a very pleasant game. The number of goals says a lot about the attacking ambitions of both teams. We even got a stunning scenario and a nice Louis-II atmosphere. Yes yes…

The goals :

– On a corner combination, Belali finds Magnetti between the surface. The midfielder misses his shot a bit, which allows Duverne to cut without being offside, Vanderson having come back late (0-1, 10th).

– After a recovery from Duverne at the feet of Vanderson in midfield, Belali made a solo breakthrough, eliminated Disasi in the area and struck hard at the near post, not covered by Nbel (0-2, 24th).

– On a penalty that he himself obtained, thanks to a hand from Belali, Ben Yedder slightly uncrosses his flat foot on the right side and takes Bizot on the wrong foot (1-2, 44th).

– On receiving a high ball, Volland deviates perfectly for Ben Yedder at 30 meters. The French international is ahead of Hrelle, pierces full axis and goes to deceive Bizot with a sharp (2-2, 51st).

– After a badly returned ball by Hrelle, Tchouamni inherits the ball on the left side in the area. The midfielder centers at the near post for the uncrossed header of Ben Yedder (3-2, 55th).

– After a save by Bizot on an attempt by Ben Yedder, Hrelle tries to clear but the ball is blocked by Volland in the goal (4-2, 70th).

Players’ NOTES

Maxifoot has assigned a score (out of 10) comments on each player.

Man of the match: Wissam Ben Yedder (9.5/10)

Like his team, the Mongasque striker started very timidly with some technical inaccuracies, and a missed opportunity at the pivot. But the French international quickly regained his bond with Volland and above all his formidable efficiency! He offered himself a superb hat-trick to place his team in 2nd place in Ligue 1, and could even have finished with a quadruple. Replaced to a deserved ovation in the 89th by Myron Boadu (not not).

MONACO :

Alexander Nbel (6): decisive in his two duels against Cardona, the Monaco goalkeeper prevented Brest from building a bigger gap in the first period. Some will still blame him for Belali’s goal, on which he does not sufficiently protect his near post.

Ruben Aguilar (6.5): abused by Belali in the first period, the right side ended up reversing the trend. He offered a lot of solutions on his lane and should have finished with a goal or an assist. But he completely misses his recovery at the entrance to the surface, then sees Jakobs miss his header on a perfect cross.

Axel Disasi (3.5): it’s true, the central defender was unsuccessful on his two headed chances. But we will especially remember his turnip when he was eliminated twice by Belali, in particular on the action of the goal of the Algerian.

Benot Badiashile (7): still so serene, the French international Espoirs has made the right interventions without giving the impression of forcing. He also shone on the raise, notably with a superb opening for Aguilar.

Caio Henrique (5.5): discreet at the start of the game, the Brazilian quickly understood why the collector Magnetti had been placed in his lane. He still distributed some interesting crosses. And can consider himself lucky to see Cardona miss his chance after a call behind his back.

Youssouf Fofana (6): clumsy in the first period, the former Strasbourg player raised his level of play after the break. His power was invaluable on recovery and on certain ball-to-foot breakthroughs.

Aurlien Tchouamni (6): would the international tricolor be disturbed by the many rumors about his future? In any case, we have already seen it much more inspired. He lost an unusual number of balls because of Agoum’s tight marking. He still ends up with an assist for Ben Yedder.

Vanderson (3): able to make a difference with the ball at his feet, the Brazilian winger was above all decisive for Brest… He was slow to get on Duverne’s goal, and lost the ball at the origin of Belali’s personal achievement. Replace the 54th by Ismail Jakobs (not)who misses a header a few meters from the cage!

Kevin Volland (8): when his agreement with Ben Yedder is developed, the Mongasques become very difficult to stop. New example this Saturday since the German, a decisive passer for his team-mate, was able to find him in interesting areas. He also got two chances but he came up against goalkeeper Bizot. Replace the 89th by Jean Lucas (not not).

Aleksandr Golovin (7): apart from a nice stretched shot released by Bizot, the attacking midfielder was quite shy in the first period. But he is one of the Mongasques who clearly accelerated after returning from the locker room. His tendency to cut towards the axis gave him a lot of freedom to orient the game, the image of his involvement in Volland’s goal. Replace the 79th by Gelson Martins (not).

Wissam Ben Yedder (9.5): see comments above.

BREST :

Marco Bizot (4): without being at fault on the goals conceded, the Brest goalkeeper is not decisive either. He only managed saves on fairly axial strikes.

Ronal Pierre-Gabriel (4.5): well helped by Magnetti in front of him, and by the axial positioning of Golovin, the right side was not put in danger. But his offensive contribution was non-existent.

Lilian Brassier (3): very present on Ben Yedder at the start of the match, the central defender had a lot more trouble when the striker just started playing. Overwhelmed, he was no longer able to follow the Mongasque movements in the second period.

Christopher Hrelle (2): nervous and on the street, the former Niois missed his match! He could have already conceded a penalty on Ben Yedder at the start of the game and did not go far from a goal against his side. He will still end up scoring a goal because of his bad return on the decisive passer Tchouamni.

Jean-Kevin Duverne (6): if Brest has long thought of winning over Monaco, it is in particular because his left side opened the scoring, before recovering the ball which brings the goal of the break. But it must be recognized that he too suffered during the heavy weather in Monaco, especially on the accelerations of Vanderson.

Hugo Magnetti (5): expected in the middle, the midfielder finally moved on the right side. No doubt a way of controlling Caio Henrique’s climbs, which he did rather well. The problem is that he brought almost nothing up front except for his involuntary decisive pass for Duverne. Replace the 64th by Haris Belkebla (not not).

Lucien Agoum (4.5): it is clear that the midfielder had the mission to block Tchouamni. An objective achieved in the first period since the Mongasque had an unusual loss. But his opponent slightly raised his level of play afterwards, and the match immediately became more complicated for him.

Paul Lasne (4): a superb save on his line after a header from Disasi, and a magnificent deep opening for Cardona save almost his match. For the rest, he struggled to exist.

Irvin Cardona (3): against his training club, the Brest striker can blame himself. He misses two huge chances in the first period, including one that could have allowed Brest to lead 3-0! His calls to depth hurt, but serve nothing without efficacy. Replace the 56th by Jrmy Le Douaron (not not).

Martn Satriano (2): his best action? A big defensive comeback on Golovin… As you will have understood, the attacker on loan from Inter Milan has never been dangerous. Replace the 64th by Steve Mouni (no not).

Youcef Belali (7): the Algerian international alone set fire to the Monegasque defense in the first period! His ability to accelerate on the counter and eliminate in one on one caused damage, like his solo goal. So he caused a lot of problems for Aguilar. But he conceded a vital penalty which revived Monaco. Before lowering his foot during the second act, during which he does not sufficiently wrap his shot off target. Replace the 77th by Rafiki Sad (no not).
