The developer-oriented conference organized by Google begins tomorrow, an opportunity to take stock of the announcements that are most anticipated.
Google’s annual developer conference will start tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT, or 7 p.m. in France. Although the purpose of this conference is to allow developers to discover and make the most of the latest innovations from the Cupertino company, the opening speech is also intended for the general public.
An opportunity for the brand to present the next major software updates, but also new hardware. So here are the most anticipated announcements from the Google I/O conference.
Android 13: more information
Being a developer conference, let’s start with the brand’s mobile operating system. Already available in beta version, Google could present a more advanced version allowing to have a global vision of the system to come.
Android 13 should be a continuation of version 12, in particular on the further integration of Material You themes. The publisher should also continue its work on respecting user data by reducing access to system elements of the various applications. Obviously, there could be great novelties, but it will be necessary to wait for the announcement to be fixed.
Android 12 L: an optimized version for foldables
Android 12 L is a derivative of Google’s current system which is optimized to natively adapt to foldable smartphones which are slowly starting to gain importance in terms of market share.
The release is scheduled for this year and is expected to ship to Samsung, Lenovo, and Microsoft devices. Google is also rumored to be working on a foldable screen device (or more), but given the lack of recent leaks, it’s unlikely a device will be announced at this conference.
Google PixelWatch
This is the big announcement expected at the material level during this conference. For some time now, many leaks have been talking about Google’s future connected watch which could, like Pixel smartphones, serve as a technological showcase.
Lots of design, sensor and price information has leaked and apart from a few internals, it leaves little to the imagination regarding the final look of the product. Taking advantage of the acquisition of Fitbit, Google will certainly try to position itself in a market largely dominated by the Apple Watch.

A new Pixel 6A
For a few years, Google has been offering slightly more affordable alternatives to the classic Pixels with the A range. While the 4 A and 5A have an identical photo part with slightly less powerful processors, the 6A could benefit from the in-house chip from Google, the Tensor, to the detriment of the photo part.
According to 9to5Google, the Pixel 6A would swap the main 50 MP sensor for a 12 MP sensor. Usually Pixel A launches in August, but a recent FCC filing suggests an early arrival for the device.
Wireless headphones in Pro version?
Today, Google only has one pair of headphones in the catalog, the Pixel Buds A-series, an entry-level version of the Pixel Buds, which have since been discontinued. Although sources are less certain, according to Jon Prosser, Google could be readying a Pro line of its headphones.
No information has filtered as to the characteristics, but the use of the word « Pro » suggests a move upmarket (logical given the discontinuation of the Buds) and the arrival of active noise cancellation, which would be a first at Google.

Several software updates
Apart from Android, other platforms could receive more or less important updates. At the same time as its Pixel Watch, Google could have announcements to make on Wear OS, its software born from the collaboration with Samsung.
For televisions, Android TV and Google TV should receive new features according to the statements (in January) of one of the product managers with the potential arrival of a competitor to Apple Fitness, better support for videoconferencing…

Other services such as Google Map, Workspace, Docs should also receive their batches of updates and new functionalities, but the software offer is so important that it is difficult to make predictions on which ones will be particularly implemented. before.
A new Nest Hub coming?
Released last year, the Google Nest Hub seems to be still a bit too new to know of a successor. However, several rumors report a device whose screen would be detachable to be used as a tablet.
An original and interesting format that seems perfectly suited to home use of a connected screen. These same rumors are mentioned in « launch in 2022 », but remain too vague to really wait for an announcement from Google.

A few little surprises again this year?
During Google I / O 2021, the Cupertino company presented its Project Starline, a video call booth giving the impression thanks to several sensors that the interlocutor was physically present behind the glass.
Although it was an R&D project presentation very upstream of a finished product, Google particularly appreciates this kind of announcement. It’s a safe bet that this year will be no exception. Regarding the theme, the mystery remains. Last year, in the midst of a pandemic, videoconferencing was in the spotlight. This year, the manufacturers seem to be emphasizing health and augmented/virtual reality, but let’s enjoy the surprise instead, tomorrow from 7 p.m.
